Remove the old filter. Apply oil to the gasket on the new one. Tighten it 3/4 turn after it makes contact with the mounting surface.
I'm pretty sure it's a canister filter on the early VR6. It should look like a plastic oil filter with a bolt head on the bottom. You just open that and replace the element inside and the two o-ring gaskets (ones big and ones small).

It is a 19mm nut located on the lower back side of the oil pan. The oil filter is in the front.

The cabin filter is located behind the glove box. Purchase a Purolator Cabin Filter as it comes with instructions on how to replace it.
The fuel filter is located on the underbody at the forward edge of the right-side of the fuel tank.

you have to take the gas tank off to get to it and if you need to replace the fuel filter they have to be spechial orderd.
I was told by Mitsubishi of groton that the fuel filter was in the Gas tank so there was no real need to replace it.
