you DO need a special tool to hold the spindle while removing the fan clutch. I found the STRAP wrenches worked ok for me...
Remove the fan covers, remove the belt, then unbolt the fan...then unscrew the clutch while make sure the water pump doesnt turn (this is where you need GM's tool or the STRAP Wrench)....then remove the water pump.....install is reverse procedure....I did it in about 2 hours....Changing the radiator was harder I think!)
