Royal Motor Company was created in 1904.
I have had to change it 2, and it is a royal pain in the butt. There are two bolts holding the housing on, however the housing is located underneath the throttle plate. so that being you have to remove the throttle plate and even then its a pain in the butt to get to the housing bolts.
Answer: Replacing Motot on 88 oldsOkay. I recently replaced the driver side window motor in my 1990 Olsmobile eighty-eight.... There is no difference in the window motors between these two years! So here is how you do it.... Step 1: Take off all the screws on the panel of the door. Beginning with the housing for the control panels for the windows and lock and then the seat belt panels.. Then you must pry out the rest by taking a small screw driver underneath the interior of the door.. when you run into something.. that means pry on it because there is a special type of pop-locking device that attaches the door and the interior paneling. Step 2: Remove plastic paneling.. Then you remove the three bolts that are holding the motor in place...they should be directly in the middle of the door but in a triangular shape. Step 3: Reach deep into the center of the door to remove the housing from the window motor. There are three tiny screws holding it in there.. Step 4: Put the new motor in place and replace all the screws. Step 5: Check to make sure the window operates correctly. Then you need to put everything back together I hope you have fun with this and that I somewhat helped you!! It took me about two hours but I didnt have any experience with these types of things!Just and FYI for everyone, the above info is not even close for the Olds 88 1990. I know because I have everything apart now and wish it was right. If any one has the correct info please post.
It's not the easiest thing to do. After removing the door panel which is a quite a task itself, the old window motor and regulator are riveted to the door frame by four or five rivets. They have to be drilled out, then the regulator and motor can be moved out of the door. There are then four more rivets that hold the motor to the regulator which also have to be drilled out. Once you get the window motor off the regulator you can attach the new motor to the regulator with 1/4 inch bolts and nuts. Then the regulator gets reinstalled and fastened to the door frame also with 1/4 inch bolts and nuts. You can then reassemble the interior door panel and enjoy your working electric window. This whole process took me about 6 hours, including running to the hardware store for the nuts and bolts.
Royal Purple.
The regulator is about $150.00 by itself, and labor about $200.00 if done by an independent shop. These figures would be at least double if done by the dealer. If you do this job yourself, you can get the regulator for as little as $25.00 online. Took me about an hour apiece to do each window. First one is kind of tricky but after that, it's pretty easy. ITs also going to depend if you need to drill out the rivets in the door.. Also food for thought its good time to check the widow motor take the cover off.. These internal "plastic roller bearings" are known for failure. Replace them with hardware from your tool box. The old trick is to put three nuts from a 1/4 inch bolt. They fit exactly in the spot.. and they will NOT fail like the plastic bearings that are factory.. The reason its important to check them is because if you install that window regulator (like i did) and the motor is bad its a royal pain to take everything out to replace the motor... and you cant replace the motor with out taking that regulator out.... You can get both parts off ebay...
