If you collect all 120 stars using Mario (including the red star and green stars, as well as prankster comets) you can go through the whole game as luigi. after earning all 120 as luigi you can go to the 'grand finale galaxy' which allows you to get bonus star, making 121 in all. this also gives you bonus super Mario galaxy images in your photo gallery on the wii console.
