How do you save on Star Fox 64?

It is not possible to "save" during the middle of a session and continue later on. This is because of the games Arcade style of play - you play through all 10 levels trying to rank in the high score list. Besides, I haven't met anyone who has had trouble getting through the 10 levels in a short amount of time, seeing as how the levels really aren't that difficult for any dedicated gamer. Therefore a save feature was never given to the game due to its simple, yet unique game play.

But, the game does keep track of your top ten highest scores, and any badges you may earn on a level (which are obtained by reaching a certain number of 'hits' on anyone of the fifteen stages to choose from)

Either play the song of time (on the c-buttons, the notes are RIGHT, A, DOWN, RIGHT, A, DOWN) or save on an open Owl Statue. Those are statues that look like Owls, and to open them you hit them with Link's Sword. You can then save on them. The Song of Time will take you back to the Dawn of the First Day. The Owl Statues will save your progress as is, at the time of day/night in the game you save (if that's kinda difficult to understand, if you save on an owl statue at 11:00 PM on the Night of the Second Day, you will return to 11:00 PM Night of the Second Day, whereas the Song of Time takes you back to the beginning.)

I got so mad when i figured out you couldn't save i wasted 1000 wiipoints (10$)

you need to have to have a memory card controller pak to save games

it has autosave. There's no button but it does it for you.
