*Note, if you are at a restaurant and need a table, you should say: Quisiera / querría una mesa (I would like a table) or (necesito) una mesa por favor (I need a table; you can ommit "necesito").

By using the subjunctive of each verb, the request/demand is much more polite. If you simply said Necesito una mesa, the listener would think you are being too forward or direct.
