They dont say 'cheers' when having a drink, they say 'good luck' which translates to 'Chohk Dee.'

I've heard them say "Cheers" but I'm not sure. Great Britain is England, I doubt they'll misunderstand you saying "goodbye", besides, quirks of your culture & background can be a great talking point, I found this a lot back in school with our Italian, Canadian and German exchange students.
You say "cheers" in spanish like "alegrías". It also means Joys.
