it is said to be a forgotten language by whom I've spoken to but it is breakable. If you look at it the way I do it is a code written by the ancients 5,000 yrs. back and earlier. I've seen the Rosetta stone. it literally tells you how to decipher Egyptian and Greek hieroglyphics from the pyramids and the homes of the Greek warriors found by Archeoligists
There used to be 5 main dialects of Coptic by currently one one is used which is bohairic. There are two ways of pronouncing bohairic:
1- the authentic traditional one that was being used throughout Egypt up until 1858 when the church decided to adopt the Greek pronunciation of the common letters between the Coptic and the Greek languages.
2- the modified pronunciation or Greco-Bohairic which primarily used in liturgical church services.
I am an Egyptian :
if you are a female you say --> ana masreyya written as : أنا مصرية
if you are male you say -------> ana masri written as : أنا مصري
Speak :
in formal language --> takallam or ta7addath
in non-formal language which is easier --> ehki ( in Arabic )
and it is written this way : تكلّم , تحدّث , احكي
'Egyptian' is already an English word. In Hebrew it's meets-REE and in Arabic its MAS-ree.
The word "Egyptian" is said masri (مصري) in Arabic.
In Egypt people speak Arabic so you would say it in Arabic.
