There is a special timing chain tool kit that is used to set the engine cams at time with the crank. These tools are expensive and the task is a tedious process, but possible. The tool kit can be purchased by after market tool suppliers like OTC. Good Luck!
Timing Chains (2) with respective guides, tensioners and sprockets.
sounds like the timing chain guides and tensioners are worn need to be replaced right away. I have an 02 expedition 4.6 liter and it caused the oil pump to fail which siezed the motor.
Outside Explorer - 2013 Montana Alpine Guides was released on: USA: 5 December 2013
the oil pump is mounted directly on the crankshaft behind the 3 timing chains after all the tensioners and chain guides are removed one 10 mm bolt and a 13 mm bolt on the pick up tube holds the pump on very big job do plenty of research before taking on this task.
the 4.7 v8 has 3 timing chains, i am not sure of manufactures rec, but i do know that if a chain goes, you can kiss the motor good bye. i would recomend all 3 anywere from 150000 kms to 200000. could be a pricey job. tensioners, guides, etc.

You'll have to pull the heads and have the guides and seals replaced. Bad seals are usually an indication that the guides have worn as well.
