The modern term is "Ich hab dich liebeSchatz".

Other possible endings would be "Liebling", "Liebste" or "Liebchen",

but they sound a little false.

===================================================

If you have a German speaking wife or girlfriend they would be extremely cross with you if all you could come up with is Ich hab dich liebe, (correct form Ich habe Dich lieb - liebhaben - to be fond of something or someone because firstly it's grammatically incorrect and secondly it translates as I am fond of you.

The correct way to say I love you sweetheart is Ich liebe Dich Schatz (and so far I've yet to hear of a German female complain of being called Liebling, Liebste , or Liebchen but then I've only been speaking German for 25 years!

What is the word for sweetheart in Apache?

The Western Apache term for sweetheart is Ohpitsa (pronounced more or less like oh-pit-sah) (see also my answer on "How do you say i love you in Apache?"... if you want to connect the phrase in Apache, you should say "Sweetheart", first, and then "I love you", rather than "I love you, sweetheart." Though this is not a formal rule, it is customary in Apache to address the person in some manner first (this is just considered "polite"), prior to speaking with them. --Chado2423
