a student is 'un étudiant, une étudiante' in French. the term is used for University students, not for younger people in the schooling system. In Primary schools, a pupil is 'un, une élève'. In junior high school (le collège), they are 'collégien, collégienne' and in senior high school (le lycée) they are called 'lycéen, lycéenne'.
