AnswerThipi. tipi for short.

Tipi is a short word for the Lakota word thipi. It means dwelling. This is where the word comes from. The proper way to spell a word from another language is to spell it the way they do. Not butcher it because people don't know how to spell it. Teepee is not the proper way to spell it. But English speakers do it that way because that is how it sounds to them.

The spelling Tepes (Țepeș) is Romanian for impaler, applied to Vlad Dracul, the inspiration for Count Dracula.

The plural noun is tepees (also tipis) for the conical Amerindian tents made of hides.
