Depends which school you went to or which country you are in. In the UK I usually hear 'dayter', but I have also heard 'datta' and dartar'. The stress has always been on the first syllable.

There is no authority for any pronunciation other than DAY-tuh. It comes from Latin, and when the first syllable of a Latin word is accented and ends in a vowel, the vowel in the first syllable will take its long sound. Every reputable dictionary will list this pronunciation first.
