From "day one", every time I held my dwarf hamster, if she would bite, I would GENTLY touch her nose and calmly say "No bite" or "No biting". It didn't take a really long time for her to get the connection, and she no longer bites -- not even strangers who hold her. Also, if you consistently treat your hamster gently and calmly (in handling and talking), it will tend to become more gentle and calm.
Mine LOVES having her fur and underlying skin massaged. When I start, she becomes a "puddle of fur" -- totally relaxed and calm. And, because I am calm and loving to her, and treat her with kindness and respect, she acts that way toward me.
Also, make sure that your hamster has some crunchy food or other substances in its cage that it can safely bite and chew.
Well you have to make it get to know you first. When its quiet put your finger into the cage but do not go near it let it come to you. Once it smells you a little it'll know you. Then talk to it and try to pet it.if it runs away try the process again. in a week or too you'll be able to pick him/her up. Also if you want to pick it up without letting it bite you, you should first if you have some a small box at the top of your cage chase the hamster up there once it is in the box left it up and cover the hole. Once you've done that you have captured your hamster.
It depends if the bite broke the skin. I f your hamster bite brakes the skin put some peroxide on it in order to clean it. Then use either Vaseline or Neosporin on it so the skin will heal. Then put an antibacterial bandage on it and you'll be good to go. Or go to the doctor if you think your hamster had rabies or you're just really worried.
Try hanging a treat bar from the bars and give him lots of chewable toys.
you could also try putting him/her in a hamster ball every night.
by letting him bite your finger.
if he bites your finger off you can let him bite the other fingers.
if you have no more fingers left you need to use other body parts
its hungry
Since there in the dissent family and their brain isn't really that big I doubt you could train a hamster not to bite but if you handle him more and let him get used to you he will most likely stop biting you
Well if they like to gnaw on the cage bars which happens to my hamster is that they are trying to make their teeth strong and or sharp. Mostly my hamster's is very sharp and bit me on my finger today and it terribly hurts! i dont know if u need an aquarium arent those for lizards and stuff. Hope this helps!
A while ago I had a hamster which was always biting. At first I thought he had a nasty temprement, but later I discovered he had a problem with his intestines which was causing him pain. There is no way of stopping a hamster biting, but when you handle him try using garden gloves do avoid getting bitten.
My hamster did the same. I know why. You need to let her run free for a while. She feels locked in a prison and she wants to run around for a bit. Buy a hamster ball and let her run around in it. This is so much more amusing than the television...
It's hugely unlikely that the hamster died b/c of biting you. More likely it bit b/c it was already feeling ill, and then died.
well if its next to bars it would climb them if u want it to stop then move the wheel.
It is called gnawing and all rodents do that. They do it because rodent teeth never stop growing. If you are not sure what exactly a rodent is its a bunny, hamster, guinea pig, hamster, rat, ect.
You can teach your hamster to climb the bars of the cage like a ladder, or do monkey bars at the ceiling of the cage.
well, biting. the hampster may bite you.....
