Packaged lentils will keep for approximately 12 months. Make sure that they come from a store with a high turnover to ensure that they haven't been sitting on the store shelves for a long time.
Not a good idea to buy any "brand" lentils. Go to your best local Indian or Arabic food store and get natural organic lentils.
