Use the volume keys on the keyboard. If that does not help check in System Preferences / Sound /Output that the internal speakers are selected and that the Mute button is not ticked. Ensure nothing is plugged into the Audio output socket on the back.

∙ 11y agoClick the speaker on the top right of the screen and slide to sound knob all the way to the top. You can also turn the volume up and down with the keys on the keyboard if you are using an Apple keyboard. If you see no speaker icon or you cannot turn the sound up open System Preferences and click the sound icon which looks like a speaker. Now click the Output Tab and make sure the output volume control is slid all the way to the right, max setting. Make sure the mute box is not checked. Set the device type to headphone.

∙ 9y agoBy default the microphone is on all the time. You can however turn it on and off by opening System Preferences and then clicking Sound. On the page that opens click the Input tab. Slide the Input level slider to the right to increase microphone level. If you speak to the computer you will see the bar moving to show you that the microphone is working. Make sure the device that is selected is Internal Microphone Built In. Otherwise the internal Mic will be disabled.
