In order to take the factory radio out of a 1999 Mercury Cougar you must have DIN tools. Once you make sure you have these, you can insert the tools into the screws on both sides of the stereo. After the tools are inserted, you need to push the tools to the outside of the stereo (slightly) to release the lock mechanism. After the mechanism is released, you can pull the stereo forward and out…
The mitsubishi eclipse has never had a bose stereo your 01 gs came with an infinity stereo, if your car does have one it is because it is aftermarket. To remove it you simply take the 2 screws at the bottom of the face plate that covers the heating and radio then remove the 2 or four depending how big your stereo is and pull it out.
I don't know what it is that you are trying to take apart, but if it is the face plate for your stereo, there is a small screw next to the bag hanger on the passenger side of the truck. Take that screw out and then pull. That whole plastic piece will come off and allow you access to the stereo. Hope this helps!
I had a similar problem with my '03. It turned out to be a short in the climate controls/Stereo controls. I am going to say you probably have the Bose stereo unit. I ended up having to take it to the dealership to get a factory refurbished unit installed. Brand new, the part is $1700, factory refurbished it is only $490.
If it's anything like the Cougar LS, there should be 4 holes in the factory stereo. There is a U shaped removal tool that you can get (they come in pairs). They will have instruction on how to pull the stereo on them. If you don't want to be bothered to do this yourself, just have the place you got the new radio from install it for you. Should cost an extra $100 or so.
How do you remove the factory radio from a 1997 Mitsubishi eclipse since you do not have the radio code?
You have to remove the panel which goes around the stereo and compartment. You will see four screws which are holding the holder with the stereo and compartment. Remove the screws and take out the holder. You might need to disconnect wire harness and the antenna before you will be able to pull the holder out. The stereo is sitting on 2(4) screws which keep it in the holder.
First you need to carefully remove the plastic bezel around the radio and a/c controls (Start at the bottom near the ash tray and pop the clips till you get them all loose.) Now reach behind and pull the electrical connectors that run to the ESP and to the back of your A/C controls. Now that the Bezel should be completely removed, take out the bolts holding the stereo in place. remove stereo. VERY IMPORTANT…
There is 3 long wire that you need to unhook. 1 is behind the glovebox. Unhook the glovebox and you can clearly see the wire. 2 is on the right of the gas pedal. After all 3 is unhooked, you can pry out the cover and disconnect the A/C and clock wire. The stereo will be revealed and unscrew the 4 screws that holds the stereo in place. Then unhook the back of the stereo.
