Use a test light to see if the motor is getting power. If it is then motor is bad.
If it is not getting power "jump" the wires on the switch to see if window will operate, is so switch is bad
To determine if a window regulator is broken or if the motor is at fault, try operating the window switch. If you hear a clicking sound or the window moves slightly but not fully, the motor may be the issue. If there’s no sound or movement at all, the regulator might be broken. Inspecting the regulator for any visible damage or obstructions can also help diagnose the problem.
remove switch from where it is mounted using a wire , bridge the connections.if switch is bad, it will work the motor while bridged
It's the switch because the motor is getting power to go up but not down.
Typically, it's caused by a worn or damaged window regulator motor, but it can also be caused by damaged guides, bad electrical connection or faulty switch. Unfortunately, it's impossible to tell you WHY it isn't working without checking it out in person.
You can tell if your window regulator is broken on a Volkswagen Beetle when you hear a big clunk as it goes down.
You will need to remove the door panel and see if the motor and/or the regulator is bad.
Normally a bad / weak motor will move down about half way, then quit. Going up it may only move a 1/2 inch at a time. If there is noise likie grinding when holding the switch up or down, and it is noisey the whole time you are holding the switch, then you may have a bad regulator, or the glass has come detached from the regulator. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ If it works sometimes it is probably a bad connection but if you press the button and you just here and kind of whining noise it probably needs a new motor.
Window regulator controls the up and down motions of your car window. Both electric and manual windows have a window regulator. Not the easiest part to replace, but once you dissembled the door panel it should be fairly simple to replace.
You have to take the door trim pad off and see if there is voltage at the motor but more than likely, the motor is bad.
If the window won't go up from only one switch it is most likely that switch. If it won't go up from the driver controls or the control on that window's door, then you probably have a problem with the window motor.
The yellow with green wire goes from the switch to the relay which is to the right of the speaker and then from the replay it changes to yellow and goes to the motor.
Remove the inside door panel. Turn the ignition on. Tap on the window motor with a sturdy object while holding the window switch in the up mode. If the motor starts to work you have found the problem, replace the motor assembly.
