How do you test 220 volts using a volt meter?

Make sure that the test meter is on the correct voltage scale. Place one lead on one of the conductors to be tested and the other lead on the other voltage source conductor. The reading you obtain will be the voltage potential between the two conductors.

The test meter is set to the AC voltage range that is over 220 volts. The test probes are placed across the source of 220 volts that is to be tested. The reading on the test meter will state what the actual voltage of the source is.

With the volt meter on the voltage scale apply the two leads from the meter across the supply voltage and read the applied circuit voltage from the meters display.
