Sounds as if you could have a compression, or a timing problem. If you can see fire on the plug, probably not a coil, generally they produce fire, or they don't. Also, rule out stale or water contaminated fuel, as well as a flooding condition. Lastly, many a problem has been solved with a new spark plug. Check also for a sheared flywheel key, this would change the timing.
