the only way I've found is to hook it to a computer and see which cyliinder has been misfiring. Once you know which cylinder is misfiring, swap the coil of that cylinder with a known good cylinder, if the misfire follows to the other cylinder you have a dead coil. Coil 8 on the 8 cyl models has a TSB published that requires to get some special seal to keep water from leaking down and shorting coils. The last time I check the seal kit was around $50

5.7 vortec no spark at all why?

you need a new distributor That can be one cause for this, could also be bad ignition coil, coil wire, or even spark plug wires. Test for spark at the coil, then coil wire, then the plug wire.

What cause misfire in 1 cylinder?

Bad spark plug? Bad plug wire? COP (Coil on Plug?) Bad coil? Bad valve? Do a compression test Bad piston? Do a compression test All of the above to include a vacuum leak such as a bad intake manifold gasket.

How to Test lawnmower pick up coil?

Remove the spark plug, reconnect the plug wire, ground the plug, and turn the Flywheel and Check for Fire at the plug. Make Sure you Don't Try to Stop the Engine After you Give it A Quick Spin With you Hand. The Coil will Fire the Plug if it is Good. The Electronic Ignition is Built Inside the Coil. Or you could just hold the plug wire in you fingers and ever so slightly turn the flywheel over. If you get shocked, the coil is good.

How do you test a lawn mower ignition coil?

Remove the kill wire from the ignition coil. It's the only wire that doesn't go to a plug. Remove one of the spark plugs. Reconnect the plug wire to the plug that has been removed. Make sure the threads of the plug are touching metal on the engine somewhere. Crank the engine. Should see spark. If not, bad coil.

Checking an ignition coil on john deere 400 tractor?

If you have access to a coil tester, spark plug should fire steadily at the 1.5 setting on the current knob. To test continuity of the coil: Primary test; connect a test lead to one side of the coil and the other lead to the other side of the coil. Readings shold be between 3.5 to 5.5 ohms. If readings are high or low, replace the coil. Secondary test; remove plug wires from plug and place test leads on plug wires. Readings should be between 68 minimum and 78 ohms maximum. If readings are high or low replace coil. There should never be continuity between the primary and secondary windings. This information is taken from the JD 400 service manual. On a side note, my secondary reading from my tractor is only 40 ohms. Primary was 4.1. The tractor runs great.

How do you test an ignition coil on a 1990 Chevy v8 2 wheel drive pickup?

Coil's are pretty inexpensive, if it is old, you could just buy a new one put install. If you want to test use an ohm meter to see if power is making it into the coil, and then make sure it is flowing form the distributor to the plug. the first way is kinda of technical, the plug test just requires that you put the plug wire against something metal and try to fire the motor.

How do you test an outboard motor coil?

Test your two primary points with ohms should read zero - where your spark plug wire goes in is your secondary - test it with one primary point should read resistance then test other primary point with secondary should read the same - coil is good - if two primary are not zero bad coil - if second with primary read zero coil is bad.

How do you repair a 1992 Suzuki GS500 motorcycle coil?

You cannot repair a motorcycle coil. Best bet is to test the coil to ensure it is bad. Your Suzuki should test between 3-6 ohms on the primary and secondary coil connections and between 18,000-30,000 when testing between the secondary and the plug wire.

How do you test a coil pack on 2002 trailblazer?

Pull each coil plug off one at a time while the engine is running... The coil pack that is bad will NOT have a difference in engine noise, but the ones that are good you will hear a slight decrease in engine noise when you unplug the coil and then plug it back up again... Hope this helps everyone!

How do you know if a cdi box is bad?
