You have to go to any Poke'mon Centre (the buildings with a red roof) and go upstairs by an escalator, then talk to the lady and she'll connect with anyone she can detect. She will direct you to a room where your friend is, and press, 'A,' when you are next to him. Then click, 'Trade,' and choose the poke'mon and vice-versa.
