I found the last answer a little disturbing.. Before you can breed budgies (parakeets) you will need to have researched and planned long before you put a hen and a cock together You cannot just let the pair "do all the work". Many health problems can occur, such as egg binding and calcium deficiency. You need to make sure the pair is healthy, not inbred and not related. The hen should be given extra calcium, as she will need it for the eggs. Before you breed you should have possible homes for the chicks ready. You will need a spacious breeding box. The nest-box will have to be accessible to you so you can keep a record of the egg and fledgling development. Only keep one pair in a single cage. When your setting up the breeding box don't overcrowd it. Your budgies wont have much time left for playing with toys. Please do not breed budgies on an all-seed diet. Introduce the already bonded pair to the box and try not to disturb them much. The pair may not breed. So do not be disappointed if they don't. If mating is successful the first egg will be laid around seven to ten days later and the next egg laid around the same time the next day. Eggs will hatch about 18 days after being laid. The hen should be sitting on the eggs while the cock feeds her and guards the nest. When the chicks are about 4 to 5 weeks old they will be curious and start exploring the surrounding outside the nest-box. When the first chick leaves the nest, the mother will still be sitting on the others. The cock will feed the other chick until he is fully independent and can eat on his own. I am highly against colony breeding, as many problems can occur with that "method". Budgies do not all get along peacefully. Fights for mates and nest spots get gory, and many end in deaths. Remember, this is a very, very, very brief guide and much further research is definitely required. I find that this is quite a good budgie breeding guide: http:/www.parrotfeather.com/budgie/budgiebreeding.php Please do not breed for money. There is no profit made in breeding budgies.

When a female keet is in breeding condition, her cere will turn dark brown and crusty looking. This will occur to keet's under 1 year of age, however, it doesn't mean they should be bred at this young age. It means she's in good health.

Well to teach them to talk, as I don't know how to teach them to do commands (it's even possible to teach them to poop on command 0.0), you can just keep repeating the word to them, and after a while they learn to say the word. Or you could teach them to whistle by doing the same thing.

A female must be younger than the male and to make them mate put them together in a cage and soon the female is pregnant buy a little bird house so the female could lay eggs in peace dont bother the female and never touch the eggs or they will crack the eggs. When the eggs hatch, go to the shop and ask for parakeet food for parakeet food for babies. When the babies re old enough they will come out of the bird house but the mom might still stay ther but dont worry

Parakeets are EXTREMELY smart and friendly. It always breaks my heart to see a parakeet stuffed into a cage, never let out, never interacted with. Parakeets are flock birds! They thrive on being cuddled, being nuzzled, having that physical interaction with their flock. And if there is only one parakeet in the cage, that flock is you! Hand training is a critical part of owning and raising a happy parakeet. If you have already Bought a New Parakeet and Gotten the Parakeet Used to your Home it's time to now start hand-training it. You can't let a parakeet out to fly around the room until it understands that your hand is safe, and that your finger is a perch it should hop onto when you say "UP". So you need to work on this next. If your parakeet was hand-raised, this is probably easy. Your parakeet probably already knows the command "up". Simply put your hand SLOWLY into the cage, talking nicely to it. Then gently press your finger against its chest and say "UP" in a gentle but firm voice. She should step up onto your finger. Keep it still and say things like "good bird" in a soft, soothing voice. If your parakeet does this easily, then you're already ready for it to come out and enjoy a bit of flying around. However, let's say you had to buy your keet from a Bin O Budgies and it is very skittish. You have to train it that you are a friend and to be trusted. Follow the step by step instructions below, and in a few weeks you will have a parakeet that will be your loving companion for years and years. DO NOT SKIP A STEP. Be sure to fully be complete with a step before moving on to the next. This is very important in having this training work properly! STEP ONE - TRUSTING THE HAND

In step one, you simply get your parakeet used to your hand being in the cage.

STEP TWO - PERCH TRAINING

In step two, you train your parakeet to step up onto a perch on command.

STEP THREE - FINGER-PERCH TRAINING

In step three, you show your parakeet that it's OK to step on a perch that also has a finger attached to it.

STEP FOUR - FINGER TRAINING

In step four, still staying just in the cage, your parakeet learns that your finger is a safe perch to sit on.

STEP FIVE - OUT-OF-CAGE FINGER TRAINING

In step five, the parakeet learns that her trusted finger is safe to sit on, even if it's outside the cage.

The more you interact with your parakeet, the friendlier he will get! Soon you'll find he loves hanging out on your shoulder while you do things, nibbling on earrings or necklaces. When I work at my computer, my parakeets hang out on the curtain rod right next to me, chirping down at me. Remember, none of this will happen instantly. If you bought a hand raised parakeet it might all happen on the first day - but people who buy budgies out of large bins are in essence buying wild birds. It can easily take several weeks to get your budgie used to you as a trusted person. You have to be patient and work on this every day, to let your parakeet learn about you and learn to trust you. It can't be rushed. Parakeets are extremely intelligent and need to learn to trust you on their own time. Parakeets do NOT BITE unless they are being threatened. So as long as you are quiet and gentle and friendly with your parakeet, you will have a quite loving companion!

Before you breed, make sure that you're doing the right thing. Do you have the time to feed 'keet babies every two hours if you're hand-feeding? Are you willing to keep the cage extra clean? Are you willing to buy fancy things and such so your parakeets won't get sick? Also, think about your reasons for breeding. Is it for profit? Is it because you think 'keets are very cute and would love more? Don't breed if it's solely for profit. And if you want more...think about the extra expenses, the extra mess, the extra cage space, the extra EVERYTHING! You'd be better off just getting one from a breeder. That way you KNOW how many 'keets you're going to get. For all anyone knows, you could end up with 6 more. Also, if you're going to sell the offspring, make sure that there's a market. If your friends say they'll buy, make them have a down-payment in order for them to stick with you. It takes quite a while to raise 'keets, and by then they'll most likely have bought one that was readily available.Anyways...

Well, you get another parakeet. If you already have two, MAKE SURE THEY'RE DNA SEXED! That means to go to the vet's office and ask him to to that. It's relatively simple. You need to have this done (unless you are absolutely sure with absolutely no doubt, which means no 99.99% that they are what they are). You don't want 2 males or 2 females to try and have eggs together. Not gonna work. The parakeets are going to round' wondering where a possible mate could be, and you're just going to get frustrated. Next, Put a nest in their cage and make sure they're used to it by a couple weeks or so. And remember to put out nesting material. Then, lengthen the hours of light they receive, artificial or real. Increase the food a bit, and then...well...let nature do what it's been doing for millions of years. Make sure you increase the females calcium intake so she doesn't get egg binding during egg laying. That's how you make them have babies. Oh wait. Nothing is certain in breeding animals. The birds may be sterile or they may not like each other. Just don't set your hopes to high. Have fun!

If you already have one parakeet, get another one the opposite sex. How you can tell if it's a boy or a girl: There are 2 dots on the beaks, heir nostrils. If the outer rim is blue, it's a boy. If it is brown or white, it's a girl. Don't get your hopes too high! They might have babies, but some of them might die in the process. Also, the birds may not like each other. If you notice one of them picking on the other, put them in separate cages, because it can lead to death. I had finches and they had babies, but the babies picked on the mother and eventually she died. Watch out and good luck!!

you are unable to just make your parakeets mate, they have to decide whether or not they want to. If you want to have a better chance of them mating though, make sure you have a covered box or something similar for them to mate in, as well as some nesting material too.

You sometimes have to buy a mating box and put nesting material (shredded paper, small sticks, ect.) inside it or in the cage somewhere
