All you need to do is press the circular button (press it, don't hold it down) in the bottom-center of the iPod. If this does not work, hold down the button at the very top of the iPod until the Macintosh, Apple logo appears on the screen. If neither of these methods work, your ipod is either out of battery (if it is, plug it into your computer and charge it) or it is broken beyond repair and doesn't work at all anymore (I highly doubt this happened, it can only have broken completely if you soaked it in water, yes soaked, not just got wet or threw it at something and it is so cracked and dented that the wires and screen are messed up.)
Hope this helps!
Hold down the button on the top left for about 5 seconds...it will come up with a screen saying "slide to Power off".
Press and hold the sleep button, then slide the bar to the right. To turn it back on, just press and hold the sleep button again and the apple logo should appear.
Press and hold the sleep/wake button (the long button on the top) until the Apple logo appears on the screen.
Hold the sleep/wake button until you see the apple logo. The sleep/wake button is the button by itself on the silver bit.
