If you are currently dual-booting...

Note: When a computer is dual-booted, the user selects an operating system at start-up.

Rather than being loaded into one automatically.

You have to format the partition that you installed Ubuntu on, you can use free software to help you do this. When the partition has been formatted, extend the free space to your main partition (most commonly the "C:" drive).

If you use Ubuntu stand-alone...

You will have to re-format the drive you installed Ubuntu on.

If you have a factory recovery disk, you may use this to re-install Windows, or any other operating system.

NOTE: Re-formatting will erase all files and settings, so you should back-up all important documents before starting this process.

If you want to delete Ubuntu completely from your hard drive, you must boot into another operating system (or the Live-CD or DVD you used to install Ubuntu with).

Open up a hard disc manager on your system ("Disc Management" in Windows, "Disc Utility" in Macs, and usually "Gparted" in Ubuntu).

Using the application, completely erase the partition that you installed Ubuntu in. You can tell which ones are safe to delete because the Ubuntu partitions do not have drive letters assigned to them. Be sure to erase the entire extended partition, not just the logical partitions inside them.

Restart your computer. If your other OS boots up, then it's a success. If not, no need to panic. Use the recovery media that came with your OS to repair the boot loader.

How do you install ubuntu on windows based computer?

A quick and relatively easy method of getting Ubuntu Linux - if you already have a Windows system and you want to run Ubuntu Linux on it - is to download Ubuntu and install it by using the Wubi (the Windows-based Ubuntu Installer) from this Ubuntu web site: http://wubi-installer.org You can use the Wubi (Windows-based Ubuntu Installer) to download and install Ubuntu Linux in Windows and this is very similar to installing any software program in Windows. One of the great benefits of using the "Wubi Installer" is that you can also uninstall Ubuntu Linux from Windows if you need to (in the same way as you uninstall any Windows program). When you use the "Wubi Installer", you DON'T have to do the following steps (that you would "typically" need to do) to install the Desktop version of Ubuntu Linux on an existing Windows system: download a Linux ISO file burn the Linux ISO file to a Linux CD set up your computer to boot from CD boot with the Linux CD to run Linux "Live" and get to the GNOME desktop double-click on the "Install" icon to start the installation routine run the Ubuntu Linux installation routine Ubuntu Linux Training Tips: The Wubi Installer is only used to install the Desktop (not Server) Edition of Ubuntu Linux on an existing Windows system - and not on a new or used computer system that doesn't have Windows already installed on it. All of the "download, burn, setup, and so on" steps listed above will be described shortly in upcoming sections. The Ubuntu Linux installation steps described above are required to install the Desktop and Server Editions (versions) of Ubuntu Linux - either on a computer system that has Windows (to create a Dual-Boot Windows / Linux system) or one that doesn't have Windows Ubuntu Linux Training Tips: Keep in mind that prior to installing Ubuntu Linux (or any Linux distro) on an existing Windows system, you need to do a complete backup of your Windows system - twice! Also make sure that you can use the backups that you have created to restore your Windows system from backup. How does WUBI work?

The Wubi application installs Ubuntu on the same partition as the Windows operating system. When the computer starts up it prompts you with either starting Windows or Ubuntu. If you choose Unbuntu an image of Linux loads on the Windows partition much like mounting an ISO image. The default folder on the partition is located in C:\ubuntu. This is referred to as a, "shell" accept in this case the, "shell" is an unpartitioned OS.

How do you remove Windows XP after installing Ubuntu with WUBI?

It is possible to convert from WUBI to a full installation I know since I did it with my laptop that had no CD drive to do a normal install from and this seemed to be the next best way since it had windows on it to start with. This is from https://wiki.ubuntu.com/WubiGuideHow do I migrate to a real partition, and/or get rid of Windows entirely?Existing Wubi/Lubi installations can be upgraded to an installation on a dedicated partition via LVPM.The main site for LVPM is at http://lubi.sourceforge.net/lvpm.html and the guide and support forum is at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=438591.

Can Ubuntu be installed along with windows in the same PC?

Yes. Instead of rebooting with the CD in the drive, pop it in, go in the CD and run Wubi.exe. Wubi is an easy way to install Ubuntu alongside Windows, with one-click uninstall should you want to later.

Can you install ubuntu and not enter my os?

Do you mean, install Ubuntu and not enter the BIOS? To install Ubuntu using a CD, you need to enter the BIOS, setting the CD drive as the first boot. Otherwise, the computer will still boot off the hard-drive and ignore Ubuntu on the CD drive. If you meant, install Ubuntu without removing your Windows operating system? Then you need to set up a dual-boot between Windows and Ubuntu. Search the internet for fuller instructions on creating a dual-boot. If you simply want to try using Ubuntu without making any changes to the OS already on the hard-drive, either use the CD containing Ubuntu as an ISO file, known as a Live CD. Or, look up WUBI on the internet. Wubi will allow you to download and use Ubuntu as you would any other Windows file - without making any changes to the hard-drive.

Can ubuntu be replaced by windows?

Yes, it can be done from the windows installation disk, but it's cleaner if you remove ubuntu with the ubuntu live cd and then install windows.

Who created Ubuntu?

Mark Shuttleworth was the man who began with the idea of Ubuntu. However the concept of Ubuntu is much older, the concept behind the word is translated many ways but all boils down to being a good neighbor and treating others well. The technology is not entirely the creation of Mark Shuttleworth, it is based on the work of thousands of others in the free and open source movement many of whom contribute to the Debian project which is the base of Ubuntu
