In Windows Movie Maker, you can mute the video sound by doing this:
> In the Time-line view, click the + button beside the Video track
> Right-click on the Audio track and choose Mute from the drop-down menu
The video's audio will be silenced.

A common toilet plunger can be used as a cup mute or a wah-wah mute. In a sticky situation it can mimic the sound of a straight mute if held very tightly to the bell, but it doesn't sound quite like a straight mute would.
