The choke, or constriction for a shotgun acts to force the pellet cluster into a smaller size. This keeps the pattern tighter for a farther distance to concentrate the shot for a cleaner kill. The shooter chooses the amount of choke depending on what he is hunting and how far he is willing to shoot. If he intends to shoot pheasant at 50 yards he will need a tighter pattern than shooting rabbits at 20 yards. Remember: if you shoot a tight pattern you must be more accurate in your sighting to hit the target.

To set an adjustable choke, the shooter uses a "pattern board" which is a large piece of paper stretched out and marked with coordinates that the shooter uses to determine how many pellets land within a certain number of inches of the center of the pattern. The shooter picks his distance, say 25 yards, shoots the paper, and counts the holes. This lets him know the shot density and whether it is suitable for his intended hunting. The shooter then adjusts the choke for his intended game.

What is a c-lect choke on a mossberg 12gauge?

C-lect choke is an adjustable choke system that Mossberg implemented on their shotguns pre-1977. After 1977 they went to the accu-choke system. The choke is adjustable between Full, Modified, and Improved Cylinder. It is, however, not recommended for use with steel shot.

Does a mossberg model 183ke bolt action have an adjustable choke?

Many of the Mossberg bolt action shotguns used a removable choke, not an adjustable. Sold under the name C-Lect-Choke, this was an external choke that could be unscrewed with a special wrench, and a different choke screwed into its place.

What is the value of an A5 FN special steel full 12 26 barrel adjustable choke?

-- Adjustable Choke -- Unfortunately, the adjustable choke is almost certainly an add-on which greatly hurts any collector value the gun may have had. In typical condition for a pre-war A5, with the added choke, value is around $350-$450. sales@countrygunsmith.net

How do you change the choke on a 12 gauge J C Higgins shotgun?

You don't give us the model, so it is hard to answer the question. Assuming the gun does not have an obvious adjustable choke, the choke is probably not easily adjustable. A gunsmith can open the choke (from Full to Modified for example) or can install internal interchangeable choke tubes (costs around $125).

How do you use adjustable choke on shotgun?

Many of the adjustable chokes are adjusted by turning the choke. (If it does not turn with moderate hand force, it is probably gunked up with carbon- let soak in a good powder solvent for a day or two and try again). They work by squeezing movable strip closer together, or further apart- the tighter the squeeze, the tighter the choke. A tighter choke holds the shot column together longer, and gives a smaller pattern that has greater range.

Can i shoot slugs through my Revelation 16 gauge bolt action?

Some bolt action shotguns had an adjustable choke, and it is generally NOT recommended that slugs be fired through those. If there is no adjustable choke at the muzzle, your shotgun should be fine. Stay with rifled slugs.

What is the use of a savage super choke for the Stevens savage arms model 77A?

The Super choke is adjustable to allow the shooter the ability to shoot with an improved cylinder choke all the way to a full choke. A choke is a reduction in width of the barrel at the muzzle of the shotgun. This affects the rate at which the pellets spread after being fired. An improved cylinder choke is a slight adjustment so that the pellets will spread out like an ice cream cone shape while a full choke sends the pellets out with much less spread. This affects range and accuracy of the shot at various distances. The use is to be able to set the desired choke before taking a shot. A shotgun with a single choke setting cannot be adjusted by the user.
