In the college I went to footnotes were added into what you were writing but were separated by quote marks according to APA formatting. Then when the sentence was done there would be an acknowledgement of the footnote by using parentheses to bracket off the Author's last name,etc according to APA rules then ending this with another parentheses. The last page would be a Bibliography page where the books used for these footnotes would be listed (again according to APA formatting).

In high school foot notes were listed at the bottom of the page. Now they are worked into the actual writing. I like the newer way better. It flows better.
