Unusual and mundane are actually almost antonyms, so this is a nice way to see how they are different. Unusual means out of the ordinary, while mundane meas exactly the opposite. Examples: "Seeing a monkey in Nevada is definitely unusual!" and "Folding clothing is a mundane task"

In the ordinary usuage, "mundane" refers to that which is ordinary and not exceptional. As in: "I found his performance, tonight, rather mundane".
