Will engine run at all if the distributor is not wired correctly
You can not use a timing light to set the timing on that year engine. The timing is computer controlled and it requires a engine scanner to set the timing.
The only way to set the timing is with a OBDII engine scanner. You CANNOT use a timing light. The timing is computor controlled.
On the older ones you can use a timing light. Newer ones do not have that option. You need to give more info for anyone to help you. What year, make, model?
There's a single brown wire ussualy near the booster. Unplug that wire. Use a timing light to set the timing to zero and plug the wire back in.
you turn the distributor and use a timing light
You will have to have an oBDII engine scanner and then go into the timing mode with scanner. You will then move the distributor by hand while watching scanner until it is in the specs. You can not use a timing light. The timing is controlled by the computer. If you did not have the distributor out of the engine are move it, Then there is no reason to set the timing. The computer will do it for you.
Check your timing... it sounds like it's too advanced. As far as I know, you tilt your rotor to change it (using a timing light to measure off the timing belt) or just use premium gasoline (the rumor is that it detonates slower).
That requires an OBD2 engine scanner to set the timing. You can NO longer use a timing light.
That requires some one that has an OBD2 engine scanner and KNOWS how to use it. The timing is electronic controlled. You can set the base timing by ear.
You CANNOT use a timing light on that engine. ( won't work ) It requires an OBDII engine scanner to set the timing. The timing is computer controlled.
you don't. try a timing light.
Use a timing light with vacuum advance disconnected set base timing to 6 degrees
