You can buy a special shampoo. Go to your local vet to purchase it or your pet store. Also, I've had good luck with a diluted tea tree oil solution. I use Main and Tail shampoo (it's for horses, animals, and humans, and can be purchased at your local drug store or market) and add a couple of drops of the tea tree oil during their bi-weekly bath. It's leaved their coat nice and shiny, and the buggies don't like it one bit. Also,you can buy special spray over the counter to spray on grass that keeps the pests away. Always read the labels and check with you vet before using something new on your precious pet.

∙ 11y agoThe good news is, dogs get a different kind of lice than humans get, it's easier to treat, and it's not transferable to humans or cats.
• Bathe your dog in a pyrethrin-based shampoo. Read and follow the shampoo instructions carefully. Dry your dog's fur well (a hair drier works well, if your dog will allow it) and apply a pyrethrin-based spray or powder. Repeat this treatment after 10-14 days to kill any remaining lice that may have hatched following the first lice treatment. You can find these lice preventing products at your local pet-store.
• Consider using a product such as Frontline, Advantiks, Advantage, or Revolution as a preventative measure.
If you have a puppy that is infected with lice, talk to your vet first before starting on any kind of pesticide treatment or other type of medication. Young puppies, do not tolerate medicated baths.
Wash and sanitize your dog's bedding in hot water, and dry on high heat. Or throw away all bedding that your dog has laid on during the lice infestation and disinfect the area where he sleeps. Wash the clothes you were wearing when you groomed and found the lice.
