After determining what you want to say, remember to think in Japanese as much as possible and avoid saying things the way only foreigners would say them. The only reason to write a speech in Japanese is for Japanese listeners and you must speak in natural Japanese as best you can.

It's very important to set your ego aside and have your speech examined by native speakers so they can show you where you've gone wrong. This approach will allow you to avoid the dreaded "obviously written by a foreigner" text that we're all too used to seeing in owners manuals and advertising written overseas, and though some feel that this straight talk about accuracy, its' importance and the causes of so many inaccurate translations to be too sensitive to talk about, they only help to muddle the waters.
