How do you you keep bugs from getting into a swimming pool?

The best way to rid your yard of insects is to provide a bird-friendly habitat. Put in a feeder in winter. Put out a bird-bath in summer. Provide shrubs & trees favorable to birds. They eat many many insects, as do frogs.

You can buy from pool shops some stuff to put in the pool water which puts a coating on the top layer of the water and it starves the little bugs of oxygen.

I owned and operated a pool service company for many years. I found that if you squirt a tablespoon or so a month of a quality dish soap(ie dawn, palmolive...), not a dishwasher detergent, the bugs are not able to float on the water and other submersed water bugs are not able to breathe in the water. The soap has many side effects such as helps to break down body and taining oils so they can be filtered out. You can expect your pool chemicals to not fluctuate as much and in some cases use less chlorine or bromine. Enjoy!!

If they float try a floating skimmer this will get rid of just about any thing on the surface of a pool.

Mosquito larvae prefer stagnant water so just running the pool filter a little more often may be the answer to your problem.

Bugs, frogs, salamanders, tadpoles or any other bugs that are attracted to your swimming pool water will die when you super chlorinate or "shock" your pool. The Chlorine is used as a sanitizer will terminate the insects, ect. However, if you regularly net or skim your swimming pool surface water this will also remove them from the water without harming them. It depends on what the bugs are...if they are mosquitoes, you can get rid of them by circulating the water. Mosquito larvae need still and stagnent water to survive. Not too many other types of bugs will live in the pool water, but many types will use the pool as a water source, so they are living near the pool. You need to include more information in your question such as do they live in the water or do they congregate around the pool, what do they look like, where are you located...etc. More information? They are called backswimmers (sometimes Tennessee Backswimmers)

If they are in your pool simply add 1 cup of dish soap to your water. this will lesson the surface tension of the water and allow them to fall into the water and die. If they are flying around your pool get a yard spray like raid.
