transfer case behind main transmission engages either manually through a lever selected by driver or electrically by switch pressed by driver to a gear set that will transfer torque to both the front and rear drive shafts equally splitting power between the two. front axle engagement can be either manually by locking in hub selector nobs, automatic centrifugal locking hubs, or any other manufacture specific front axle engagement method.
Depends on if your shifting from 4 Hi or 4 Low to 2 wheel drive. If going from 4 Hi to 2 Hi you can shift it while moving, if going from 4 Low to 2 Hi, you must stop and put it in neutral.
Four wheel drive high range.
Most vehicles need to be stooped and in neutral before they will engage the the 4WD in low.
You'll have to be more specific about your 4 wheel drive: What doesn't work? Will it start up? Does it drive properly? Explain yourself.
Hi, The first is to lock your hubs whether they are manual or auto. The second is to put the drive lever from 4 hi to 4 low or hi depending on the conditions and speed you'll drive. Steve H.
During poor/slippery driving conditions on or off the road when more traction is needed. Keep in mind that using 4 wheel drive does not improve braking.
NO... 2 and 4-wheel drive transmissions WILL NOT INTERCHANGE.
no unless it is a 4 wheel drive and you are in 4 hi or lo. I still wouldn't do it
Should be
4 auto means its in 2 wheel drive until it needs four like when the tires break loose and then it kicks into 4. 4 hi means its in 4 wheel drive the whole time
The ONLY 2 years that will work is 96 and 97 4L60E transmission. If it is a 4-wheel drive then it must be a 4-wheel drive transmission. If it is a 2-wheel drive then it must be a 2-wheel drive transmission. 2 wheel and 4 wheel drive transmissions will not interchange.
If You have Manual Locking Front Hubs, Then the 4 wheel drive will not work/drive the front 2 wheels at all without, Locking-Them-In . Do Not Lock and use the 4 wheel drive on Dry Pavement.
