By suggesting it as a possibility, then discounting it. He thus forced Othello to push for some evidence proving it. By using the con artist's technique of the stall, together with his reputation of honesty, Iago makes Othello think that Iago could not have made the suggestion unless there was some reason for it, and the more Iago denies that there is such a reason, the more Othello believes it.
Iago's plan for Cassio is to make as if Cassio is having an affair with Desdemona, Othello's wife. He plans on Roderigo killing Cassio, or Cassio killing Roderigo, or both killing each other so Iago's planning will not get back to Emilia or Othello.
at first, he says that Desdemona fell in love with Cassio (to make Roderigo jealous), then he says that Roderigo has a chance to get Desdemona's love and heart.
He gets him drunk. He knows that Cassio has no head for liquor and that he is a quarrelsome drunk. Cassio knows it too, but Iago is able to talk him into it anyway.
