That's what the umbilical cord is for. Everything the mother takes in (eats, drinks, breathes, etc.) gets processed and goes to the baby through the umbilical cord. That's why it is important for the mother to eat healthy during the pregnancy. And, that means staying away from alcohol and drugs.
