Car battery polarity can only reverse if the battery is completely dead and then charged with the neg. and pos. leads of the charger are reversed. This is very dangerous as hydrogen gas which is given of buy a dead battery may explode and cause personal inguiry.Likewise if the car's battery cables are accidently reversed while the battery is dead.

What happens when you charge a car battery on the wrong polarity?

You can't recharge it hooked up in reverse. You will destroy the battery or the charger if you try it.

What happens when you change plus and ground on a car battery?

You change polarity which can very possibly damage all electrical components.

Is Reverse polarity is when the ground and neutral are wired backwards?

If you are talking about an AC (alternating current) circuit, such as the house mains supply, "reverse polarity" usually means the "hot" and "neutral" wires from the supply have been connected to something the opposite way round to what they should be. If you are talking about a DC (direct current) circuit supplied by a battery, such as in a car, "reverse polarity" usually means the positive and negative leads from the battery have been connected to something the opposite way round to what they should be.

What can cause the diode in the alternator to fail in a fiat punto?

Just like anything else things just break. Have you had any electric welding done on the car? Have you used an external battery charger? Have you accidently connected the battery in reverse polarity?

What causes a battery to reverse polarity?

Discharging it to 0V (ie. absolutely empty). And not battery, but "cell" (even a small AA or AAA battery is consider a "cell" - think Duracell).Batteries are usually made up of individual cells (like car batteries, RC batteries etc.), and even if not all of them are discharged completely, if even just one cell reverses polarity, it will do irreversible damage to the battery.

What happens if you use reverse polarity battery on car plus keep POS-POS NEG-NEG?

If you operate any electrical device even turning on the ignition, you risk burning out any diodes.

Will a fiesta car battery work in a metro?

Yes, as long as you hook the polarity right

What are the top causes of exploding car batteries?

Hooking the battery cables up incorrectly. Reversing the polarity can cause the battery to explode.

What happens when you put a radio to a battery?

you can hook a car radio directly to a car battery or even a car battery charger with out problems, I have done it myself, the only thing to remember is that it needs to have 12 volts and the polarity (+ -) needs to be correct.

Where can I get the best car battery charger possible?

You can buy it on amazon.com for approx. $43.

Will a car battery charger ruin my battery if I accidentally reverse the cables while charging?

Yes it will damage your battery if you reverse the cables. There is an article on Wikipedia about it at this link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rechargeable_battery.

Why would the negative ground drain the battery when car is off?

Because if you reversed the polarity at the battery it would blow the fuse through which current flows to the drain.
