Comets are like "dirty snowballs"; frozen gasses with dust and rocks in them. Each pass near the Sun causes the comet's nucleus to be exposed to intense sunlight, which causes some tiny fraction of the gas to evaporate and carry some of the dust and rock away into space. The gas and dust, near the Sun, cause the comet's "tail", and repeated passes cause dust and rock to spread out along most of the orbit of a comet. When the Earth enters one of these trails of old comet dust, we have meteor showers.
On rare occasions, comets break apart or even more rarely, crash into planets. In 1994, the comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 broke apart and then collided with the planet Jupiter.
As a comet nears the sun, a tail forms from the solar wind blowing off dust particles from the comet. The tail lengthens as the solar wind intensifies and the comet approaches closer and closer. In some cases, comets have been known to collide with the sun, fragment, or completely burn away due to the sun.
Comets are made partially by ice, and the trail is some melting ice. This is the reason we see the trail behind the sun.
it gains and loses a coma and tail
it is a comet it flies through outer space!!
No. Comets tails always point away from the sun. I believe the are a result of the heat and solar winds projected out from the sun which strip material off from the comet as it travels through space.
That, my friend would be a Comet.
Sound travels through particles which vibrate in solids liquids or gases, which is why sound can't travel through vacuums like space.

Energy from the sun travels through the vacuum of space by radiation.
Heat travels through empty spaces by radiation.

The heat of the sun heats the material that forms the comet and creates gas that the comet leaves behind as it travels. There are usually two distinct types of tails, one is straight, the other wavy. Some of the tail will be wavy because of "solar wind". It is not through friction of any sort since there is no friction in space.

As the medium through which light propagates in space is closes to a vacuum, light propagates very well in space. However, it travels at the same speed as it would on earth, as light travels at 299,792,458m/s in a vacuum, regardless of where that vacuum is located. the light travels in same speed whether it travels in space or earth.
Light travels fastest through space which has no air. Space is a vacuum which is the fastest way for light to travel.
