Cranes with electromagnetic lift are known as electromagnetic cranes. Such cranes are used widely in lifting and moving scrap metal. Even in a production line of many products, electromagnetic cranes are used to lift and move the metal objects. Electromagnetic cranes are particularly simple and have many advantages over other lifting tools. They are both faster and easier to work with.

They basically have the wires are tightly wrapped in coils and they have an electrical current through them, therefore, making them magnetic. Whilst the electromagnet is magnetic, it will only pick up certain metals.

A crane or junkyard crane uses an electromagnet to pick magnetic items up. The crane controls the electromagnet by using a a circuit that has a wire wrapped around a piece of metal that can be magnetized that's at the end of the crane's arm. When the circuit completes, the metal at the end of the cranes arm gets temporarily magnetized. When the current stops, the metal get demagnetized and can't pick things up anymore.

The electromagnet is essentially a metal 'core' surrounded by wire that's connected to the mains supply. If you apply power to a coil of wire wrapped around a metal core, it magnetises it. When the crane driver wants to pick up a load of metal, he switches on the power - which creates a magnetic field. This lets him pick up a load. When he's moved the load to where he wants to drop it, he switches off the power, and the metal pieces fall to the ground.

Whyb are natural magnets noy used in cranes to lift heavy loads?

The electro-magnet can be switched on and pick up metal. Then the electro-magnet can be switched off and the metal will be released. A natural magnet would not release the metal.

Why are magnets used?

Electro magnets can be very useful to carry heavy loads of iron and metal from one side of a factory to another. Electro-magnets are formed by shooting electricity through a coil of copper.

What are electro magnets used for?

They can be used in Junk yards to pick up junk. They can be used in a Dentist.

Yes, electromagnets itself is an artificial magnet.

How are electromagnets used to make electric power?

Electromagnets are used to make electric power because magnets are a type of electricity, and electro is at the front.
