Hello there, I happen to come across this while looking up a wave machine blowers. I personally have dealt with 3 pneumatic (Air Based) wave machines.

I have an interests with these machines myself.

Most of the Wave machines in the UK are Pneumatic and they work by a high speed fan aka Compressor.

In a butterfly valve system air will pressurise in to a large pipe that connect the blower and the chambers. When valves for each of those chambers has been selected often by a person who selects it at a main panel, the selected valves will open (Exhaust Valve is closed at this time) to compress the Plenum Chamber or Caissons either to push down a bellow to push out water or in some or directly pushing out the water.

When the Exhaust Valve Opens and other Closes air is let out of these chambers and believe me gust of air out of that valve is powerful enough to push your hand out of the way.

The Process Repeats after this, Selection of different valve timings are often used to create wave patterns.

The Other wave machine I have dealt with is my local wave machine pool. This wave machine has a pressurised blower room only way for me to see what went on inside this one was to leave the cameras in there. It uses a large blower which blows through a valve that pivots as each blower serves 2 pipes which can be seen from in the pool when looking through the bars. Air that is blown in to the pipe in to the powerful chambers will push down the water directly as I have seen this from filming inside the chambers of this wave machine. Water Level is pushed down enough to just to top of the bars. When that valve moves to the other pipe that is when the air is released back in to the blower room. Reasons why the blower room is pressurised to keep water out of the room.

There is another type where air is used to push paddles in some too I have not seen these.

Example of a Wave Machine in West Edmonton Mall Swimming Pool aka Blue Thunder.

This uses a 5 large pivoting panels as it pivots on the floor I believe the way of the water to push the waves. Panels move quite slow. I have never seen this before.

Hydraulic System - Siam Park, Typhoon Lagoon has this type of system and it works like a toilet by recirculating water. Water is pumped in to a tank above the chambers and when filled at a certain level water is released in to the deep end. Water is taken from the swimming pool via a return pipe/canal back to the pumps probley also goes through filtering system as well then fills the tank for next release.

Hope this helps

I have found these machines very interesting causing me to research them.

=At the base level of the pump, the pipe curves, runs horizontal for 6 feet (1.8 m), then curves up and rises another 10 feet (3 m) before finally opening into the water reservoir. In all, the pumps move the water 29 feet (9 m)! At their standard speed, the pumps drive about 40,000 gallons (150,000 L) of water per minute==At the base level of the pump, the pipe curves, runs horizontal for 6 feet (1.8 m), then curves up and rises another 10 feet (3 m) before finally opening into the water reservoir. Similar to the toilet cistern when the water falls below a certain level a valve is released that allows water to enter the pool from the supply.
