When each bullet is fired the gas given off from the round goes down the gas cylander and auto loads the next round into the chamber and preps it for firing The bullet is propelled down the barrel by hot gases. Just before the bullet leaves the barrel there is a small hole. Gases are vented out of the hole into a gas chamber. The gases push on a rod which rotates the bolt unlocking it from the receiver and then pushes the bolt back. This ejects the spent casing. There is a spring in the operating rod that stops it from sliding back anymore and then pushes it forwards again. As the bolt comes forward it strips a new round from the clip and pushes it into the chamber. The operating rod continues forward until the bolt is locked down again.
