Air is pumped into the side of an open ended tube one end of which is placed at the bottom of the tank. Air rises in water, so the rising air creats a collumn of rising water in the tube. A small material bag is placed at the top end of the tube and as the water flows into this bag it filters back into the tank. If the other end of the tube is moved around close to the mulm and rubbish on the (subtrata) bottom of the tank, the water flowing into the tube will lift the rubbish up the water column where it is filtered out and remains in the bag at the top for later removal.

How often do you have to change turtle aquarium gravel?

Not necessarily 'change' it - but certainly clean it regularly. As a cleansing product - I swear by 'Milton Fluid' (the stuff you sterilize baby bottles with). Once a week, wash the gravel in a solution of half a cap of Milton to two gallons of water. Let the gravel sit in the water for at least an hourto allow time for the fluid to work. Rinse the gravel thoroughly in clean water at least three times - to get rid of any Milton residue.Leave the gravel to dry for a couple of hours before you put it back in the cage. One option would be to have another quantity of gravel already cleaned so you can 'swap' it over instead of having to wait for it to dry.

How to plant aquarium plants in gravel effectively?

To plant aquarium plants in gravel effectively, follow these steps: Prepare the gravel by rinsing it thoroughly to remove any debris or dirt. Create small holes in the gravel using your fingers or a planting tool. Gently place the roots of the plant into the hole and cover them with gravel. Press down on the gravel around the plant to secure it in place. Repeat the process for each plant, leaving enough space between them for growth. Fill the aquarium with water slowly to avoid disturbing the plants. By following these steps, you can effectively plant aquarium plants in gravel for a healthy and thriving underwater environment.
