Coal is formed from buried vegetation over 300 million years ago. The material formed is called peat. the earth structure changes and deposits of sand and other material are dropped on the peat, putting a lot of pressure and temperature on the material squeezing out water from the material which then gives yield to coal.

What element in coal is oxidised to form this gas?

Carbon in coal is oxidized to form carbon dioxide gas when coal is burned.

Is a diamond made of coal or petroleum?

Diamonds are not made of coal or petroleum. Diamonds are composed of carbon atoms that have been subjected to high pressure and temperature deep within the Earth's mantle, causing them to crystallize into the hard, transparent gemstone we know. Coal and petroleum are derived from biological material and do not form diamonds.

Which element in the coal is oxidised to form carbon dioxide?

Carbon in coal is oxidized to form carbon dioxide when coal undergoes combustion.

Why does coal turn into diamonds?

Coal and diamonds are both made of carbon atoms arranged in different crystal structures. Diamonds form deep within the Earth's mantle at high pressure and temperature conditions, causing the carbon atoms to form a tightly packed crystal lattice that gives diamonds their hardness and brilliance. On the other hand, coal forms from the compression and fossilization of plant material under much lower pressure and temperature conditions, resulting in its different structure and properties.

How petrol is made from coal?

Petrol is not directly made from coal, but rather through a process called coal liquefaction. In this process, coal is converted into a liquid form by heating it at high temperatures and pressures with hydrogen. The resulting liquid can then be refined to obtain fuels like petrol. However, coal liquefaction is not commonly used due to its high cost and environmental concerns.
