My English teacher said they were/are not, that sometimes it just seemed that way because they spent long periods of times with no females around. But I guess nobody can really know besides the author.

∙ 15y agoNo, he does not have a last name. He is the only one in the book really without one. I believe it planned that way because of that he died in the end. Some type of symbolism that I do not have time to think about at the moment. :P (writing a paper about the book) Hope i helped!
In the book "A Separate Peace" by John Knowles, Finny's last name is Phineas doesn't have a traditional last name attributed to him. He is mostly referred to by his nickname, Finny.
