Primary consumers eat plants and use the stored energy as energy for growth, movement etc.
Secondary consumers eat primary consumers and turn their stored energy into usable energy.
Plants, primary consumers, secondary consumers (and the rest) die and are consumed by decomposers who take the stored nutrients and, well, decompose them.
The fact that every living thing relies on plant material as a starting point for nutrition, and plants rely on the sun to create that nutrition should answer your question.
