How do you activate Windows Vista home premium?

The only other kind of locking I'm aware of for Windows would be the password option you can place on your user account once Windows is already installed. All the platforms of Vista are on the DVD (or 5 CD's). You have to have the Home Premium serial to unlock the features. Why do that though when an Ultimate serial would do so much nicer. :)
