  1. Take a magnet to get the iron out.
  2. Blow the poppy seed out with wind blowing or vacuum cleaner
  3. Dissolve the benzoic acid in pure alcohol (solubillity max. 2.6 M), filter off.
  4. Dissolve the salt in warm water, filter off the 'left-over' sand.

(it is possible to reverse the last to steps, but then it is more difficult to evaporate the 'benzoic acid'-tincture, after its final filtration, there will be also some salty water -from the previous step- dissolved in it)

Spread the mixture as thin as possibly across a piece of paper. Run a magnet over the mixture and the iron filings will be attracted to the magnet.

Then add toluene or gasoline or similar ORGANIC solvent to the remaining mixture. Mix thoroughly and filter. The solvent extract will contain the organic camphor. Heat that solvent extract gently and evaporate the solvent off. Camphor will remain.

An alternative is to heat the mixture vigorously and camphor being organic will come off and can be condensed. There can be some charring though so organic solvent extraction is preferred.

To the remaining salt and sand, add water and mix and again filter. Boil the filtrate and evaporate the water off and you will be left with salt. All that will be left of the original mixture is wet sand. Rinse it and then dry it and you will have sand left.

How will you separate a mixture of iron filings sand and camphor?

To separate a mixture of iron filings, sand, and camphor, you can use a magnet to attract the iron filings, leaving the sand and camphor behind. Then, you can dissolve the camphor in water as it is soluble, allowing the sand to settle at the bottom. Finally, you can filter out the sand to obtain separate components.

How can you separate a mixture of iron filings sand and camphor?

To separate the mixture, you can use a magnet to attract and remove the iron filings first. Then, you can add water to the remaining mixture, as sand will sink and camphor will float. By decanting the water, separated sand and camphor can be obtained.

How do you separate a mixture of sodium chloride and aluminium filings?

To separate a mixture of sodium chloride and aluminum filings, you can use a magnet to separate the aluminum filings since they are magnetic, while the sodium chloride will remain unaffected. Alternatively, you can dissolve the mixture in water, then filter it to separate the insoluble aluminum filings from the soluble sodium chloride solution.

How do you seperate a mixture of iron filling and sawdust?

One way to separate a mixture of iron filings and sawdust is to use a magnet. The iron filings will be attracted to the magnet and can be easily separated from the sawdust. Alternatively, you can also use a sieve to separate the iron filings from the sawdust based on size difference.

How do you separate iron and copper filings?

One way to separate iron and copper filings is by using a magnet. Since iron is magnetic, you can use a magnet to attract and separate the iron filings from the copper filings, which are not magnetic. Alternatively, you can dissolve the mixture in a solvent, filter out the copper filings, and then evaporate the solvent to retrieve the iron filings.

Is iron filings and powdered sulfur a homogeneous mixture?

No, the mixture of powdered sulfur and iron filling are not a homogenous mixture, they are a heterogenous mixture.

How you separate a mixture of common salt camphor and iron filings?

by using a bar magnet, because iron fillings are magnetic and hence it gets attracted to that bar magnet

How can you separate the mixture of sugar and camphor?

Camphor will sublime when heated mildly (sugar will not). Heat the mixture mildly, collect the sublimate separately, cool the sublimate to get camphor.

How will you separate comphor from the mixture of sand comphor?

What liquid can be used to separate mixture of iron filings and sulfur?

Carbon disulfide can be used to separate a mixture of iron filings and sulfur. This is because carbon disulfide can be used to dissolve sulfur, thus leaving you with the iron filings.

How when cold do you separate a mixture of iron filings and sand?

This can be done by the processs of magnetism. Holding amagent near the mixture will cause the iron filings to be attracted out of the sand.

What thing can separate sulfur from iron filings except from magnets?

If the mixture is powdered sulfur and iron filings, use a strong electrostatic field. The sulfur will jump to the opposite charge leaving the conductive iron behind. ***************************** Or, you could add carbon disulfide which would dissolve the sulfur.
