How does seasons affect farming?

Weather can improve the bounty of the crops with a good amount of rain and sunshine to ripen certain produce or it can kill the crops by flooding the crops causing the soil to not be able to take in the water and possibly dis-root the plants or not get enough water in a drought and cause them to die. It can also have spring freezes and cause the plants to die by freezing the water in the chloroplasts causing them to ice over, the plant to not be able to make glucose through photosynthesis therefore the plant dies. Seemingly It governs the farmer and dictates the money flow and amount of produce and what they have in the next seasons.

Agriculture depends on growing periods that are seasonal in itself. Crops can only be grown when things are green and growing, then harvested when it's brown and dry, never when snow's on the ground. If you think Agriculture is not a seasonal activity, then you are seriously misinformed and need some real education.

Particular seasons offer optimum growing conditions for plants, regardless if they are being used or grown in an agricultural environment or not. Long days, plenty of sunlight, adequate moisture in the form of precipitation and warm soil temperature are all factors that make conditions optimum for plants to grow and consequently be able to be harvested for food for humans and feed for animal. In the temperate climates, such seasons are spring and summer. In the more tropical areas, this would be the "wet season."

In the seasons where conditions do not offer optimum factors for plants to grow plants are in dormancy and very little farming is done. Fall is the time when plants begin to go into dormancy in readiness for winter and most crops are getting harvested. It's also a time when cattle are being pulled off of summer pastures and start to be placed in winter grazing grounds or drylots to be fed over the winter. Winter is a time when no plant growth is done and animals are fed by feed stored (which was harvested over the summer and fall), and fields are not worked.
