In a nutshell it is caused by living in war like conditions for periods of time. Near by explosions can cause brain damage. When the person returns, their body is unable to re adjust to the calm surroundings. It stretches much further though. There are persons whos brains wont go off alert mode, and just hearing the word"bomb" or "FIRE!" can send them into a violent panic. Its quite a terrifying condition. There are treatments however.
