Heat is retained in a Styrofoam cup bu stacking at least 2 and place a lid. Because Styrofoam is well insulated, it retains the heat, and by added a minimum of 2 cups, it increases the amount of insulation. It is also important to note, that some heat will still be lost, and you will be able to tell if you can feel the heat through the outer cup.

Keep the top of the thermos closed, heat will keep bouncing back and forth within the container.

Thermos flasks keep things hot or cold by being a poor conductor of heat to the outside. They are built by having a double layer of stainless steel with trapped air in between. The trapped air is a poor conductor of heat. We do the same when we put on a jacket, we keep trapped air near our body.

It depends on a lot of factors, like how hot the drink is, how much of the drink is there, how thick the styrofoam is, etc.

It absorbs it. It's like the pink cotton stuff you find in your attic or basement.

They trap heat with their air tight seals that air can't get through, so it keeps the cold air out and the warm air in.

Why sides of thermos bottle are silvered?

Silver is a great heat and light reflector. That means if you store cold water in a thermos, the heat from outside cannot get into the thermos easily because the heat is reflected by the silver color of the thermos.

In terms of molecules moving how a does a thermos bottle keep hot liquids hot and colds liquids cold?

If you look inside of a thermos you will see metal. This absorbs the heat or the cold and keeps it that way for as long as the contents are in the thermos.

How do thermos work?

A thermos works with principle of Physics that vacuum is a pure insulator of heat. Thermos is made of two containers separated by a vacuum space which acts as an insulator of heat. Also the surface of thermos will be glassy which in turn helps in reduction of heat loss.

Can a thermos or glass cup keep liquids hotter longer?

This will depend upon the Thermos, but in general a thermos will keep hot liquids hotter for longer. This is because the Thermos has stronger insulating properties.
